About 2 months later, you can see the progress of the big pot vs. little pot test. Of course, there is the genetic variation to take into account. But what I think is happening is due to the larger pot, perhaps energy is being used to grow a larger root system?

Both trees have started to develop bark, with fall season upon us, I expect the leaves to begin turning yellow. Looking forward to seeing early growth patterns in the spring. Perhaps the smaller trees grows more due to larger root system? Perhaps in the winter I will pull them both out of the pots to compare root systems.

For now, small pot has grown taller than large pot.
