Here is a quick example of loose wiring on a one year old Mandarin orange tree grown from seed. Two things are demonstrated here.

First, I attempted to cut off top growth early on, mostly to see what would happen. As you can see it split into two new leaders. There was some die back, but it was not too bad.

Second, the loose wiring as I am shaping as an informal upright "S" shape. Trying really hard not to wire tightly to prevent scaring on the bark. I can still shape the tree as there are touch points where the wire meets the tree. Overall I have nice control of the shape without wrapping the wire tightly.
